Sports Authority of India steps in to resolve Asian Games transport and accommodation issues.

India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games has brought a mix of medals and near misses: the contingent has earned 15 medals, including one gold, while several athletes narrowly missed podium finishes. Indian table-tennis pairs opened with wins, and the mixed 4x400-meter relay team advanced to the final; other Indian swimmers and relay participants finished outside medal contention. To address logistical problems, including reported transport and accommodation delays, the Sports Authority of India arranged airport assistance, transport for shooters, vehicles for medical teams and additional rooms for coaches and staff. The measures come amid wider criticism of Games organizers over accommodation shortages and other disruptions affecting athletes.
Quimcy Dsouza missed out on a teqball medal after losing the women’s singles bronze-medal match to Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 2-0, with both sets ending 12-11. Dsouza had beaten Sakamoto earlier in the group stage.
India’s women’s doubles table-tennis pair Sreeja Akula and Syndrela Das defeated Mongolia’s Bolor-erdene Batmunkh and Burenjargal Sanjaa 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 12-10); Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade also won their match 3-0, against Iran.
The mixed 4x400m relay team of Jay Kumar, Kiran Pahal, Manu TS and Poovamma MR reached the final after placing second in its heat in 3:16.23, behind China’s 3:15.97.
The shooting venue in Toyota is more than 75km from Nagoya, and reports said delays in local-organiser transport had disrupted Indian shooters’ training and competition schedules. The article also noted that some athletes facing accommodation delays reportedly slept on floors after tiring journeys.
