Low-Budget Devotional Film Hanuman Ansh Crosses Rs 380 Crore Worldwide

Vishal Chaturvedi’s low-budget devotional biopic *Hanuman Ansh*, about Neem Karoli Baba, has sustained an unusually long theatrical run after a slow opening, with positive word of mouth driving its later collections. Around Days 50–51, reports placed its India net total between Rs 292 crore and Rs 298 crore, with differing figures, and its worldwide gross above Rs 380 crore. The film was reportedly made for less than Rs 2 crore and became one of the year’s biggest Indian box-office performers. Its success prompted plans for two further installments in the franchise.
The film opened with just Rs 10 lakh and earned about Rs 1.5 crore in its first two weeks; its collections then surged, including Rs 61 crore in Week 4 and Rs 90.25 crore in Week 5.
The film held its audience even after Nani’s big-budget action drama The Paradise opened on September 24; Hanuman Ansh collected Rs 3.65 crore net on Day 49 despite the new release.
On Day 51, the film played across 3,979 shows and recorded 37% overall occupancy, according to Sacnilk.
Before starting work on a Hanuman Ansh sequel, the makers announced a separate film about Tulsidas; the film’s reported budget was around Rs 1.5 crore, funded by three producers contributing about Rs 50 lakh each.
