Multiple Teenagers Face Murder and Attempted Homicide Charges Across Several States

In Houston, 17-year-old Travoris Jarrell Hines was charged with murder in the shooting death of Westbury High senior and student-athlete LePaul Warren near the school; police have not established a motive or confirmed whether a gun recovered from Hines was used. In Austin, 17-year-old Jorge Garza was charged with murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Jacob Villanueva, whom police say Garza shot after an altercation at an apartment before leaving in Villanueva’s vehicle. In Pittsburgh, a teenage girl was charged with attempted homicide after a fight among four girls in Market Square turned violent when a knife was produced. In Mississippi, four teenagers from Byhalia were charged with attempted first-degree murder and will be tried as adults, though police have released few details. In Eunice, Louisiana, 17-year-old Elijah Manuel was arrested on an attempted second-degree murder charge in connection with a Sept. 11 shooting; police said additional arrests may follow.
Houston police said investigators used witness interviews, security-camera footage, phone data, a photo lineup and drone surveillance at a nearby apartment complex to identify Hines.
Westbury High was placed in secure mode after Warren was shot, though Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz said the campus was never in danger. The school also canceled its homecoming football game and said it was working to reschedule it.
In the Austin case, police said the apartment resident had argued with her boyfriend, Garza, then called her ex-boyfriend, Villanueva. Villanueva came over and asked Garza to leave before police allege Garza shot him.
The four Byhalia teens charged in Mississippi are identified as Andrey Hearn, Chavar Pollard, Zamarion Brounson and Cullin Mendez.
