Detroit Lions Conclude Day Four of Training Camp with Player Returns and Offensive Highlights

The Detroit Lions opened their 2026 training camp to fans for the first time on Day 4, giving season ticket holders their first look at the roster in action. According to Charlotte Observer, defensive back Christian Izien returned from the Non-Football Illness list, while defensive tackle Alim McNeill practiced after being evaluated for a neck injury.
The Lions were shorthanded, missing Payton Turner (back) and Jimmy Rolder (leg). Star running back Jahmyr Gibbs attended practice for just the second time this camp as he waits on a new contract and nurses what SI described as an expected minor back injury.
The offense gave fans some highlights. Wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa hauled in a touchdown catch during team drills. Third-string quarterback Luke Altmyer also connected for a touchdown, showing promise behind the depth chart, according to Miami Herald.
But drops were a recurring issue throughout the session. Macon noted that the theme was hard to ignore. Dropped passes hurt the offense's flow and will be a point of emphasis as the Lions prepare for padded practices starting Monday.
Jahmyr Gibbs remains one of the biggest storylines of camp. The star running back has attended only two of four practices so far. He is dealing with a minor back issue, but his limited presence is closely tied to his ongoing contract negotiations, according to The State.
Gibbs has not been ruled out of any activity. However, the Lions will need their top ball-carrier healthy and under contract before the regular season. His situation is one to watch closely as camp progresses.
One of the more intriguing storylines from Day 4 involves 2025 third-day draft pick Miles Frazier. According to Ledger-Enquirer, coaches and scouts are watching him closely as a potential contributor to the offensive line rotation.
Frazier is fighting for a role on a Lions line that has been one of the best in the NFL in recent years. Breaking into that group is difficult, but his performance in camp so far has made him worth watching.
The Lions will begin full padded practices on Monday. That is when the intensity of camp jumps sharply. Contact increases, and true competition for roster spots becomes much clearer, according to SI.
The return of Izien and the continued participation of McNeill are positive signs heading into that stretch. Detroit will need as many healthy bodies as possible on both sides of the ball when the hitting starts.
