Man Charged After Boat Reportedly Disturbs Dolphin Pod Off Scotland

A man has been charged after a boat was reported disturbing a pod of dolphins off Portknockie on Scotland’s Moray coast on June 27. He is to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Police reminded the public to follow Scotland’s marine-wildlife watching guidance and avoid disturbing dolphins and other protected marine animals.
Dolphins, whales and porpoises are protected in Scottish territorial waters, and intentionally or recklessly disturbing them is against the law.
Police asked anyone who witnesses possible disturbance or harassment of marine wildlife to note as much detail as possible and report it.
Police said people should follow the Scottish Marine Watching Code whether viewing wildlife from shore or from the sea, and warned that breaches of the law would be investigated.
