Dozens Injured and Hundreds Detained as French Students Protest Over School Resources

France's Education Minister, Edouard Geffray, has reported that dozens of people have been injured in a wave of student demonstrations over school resources. The demonstrations, which began last week and coincided with a public-sector strike, have become a political flashpoint at a sensitive time for France as the government prepares to unveil the 2027 budget, which is expected to involve significant spending cuts. Students are protesting against dilapidated schools, insufficient resources, and stressful exams. The government has called the protests irresponsible but has acknowledged difficulties in high schools. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that 440 people were detained over protests, most of them minors, and seven incidents of hydrochloric acid thrown at law enforcement.
