Square Enix Debuts Final Fantasy Resonance TGS Trailer

Final Fantasy Resonance is co-developed by Lancarse and is described as the first mainline-style Final Fantasy entry to use the HD-2D aesthetic associated with Octopath Traveler.
The story begins with Rain and Lasswell investigating the Earth Shrine after its protective barrier weakens. They are defeated by Veritas of the Dark, who shatters the Earth Crystal; when they return to Grandshelt, they find the kingdom under attack and must rescue its king before beginning their wider journey.
The trailer previews the theme song “Inside,” adding an original musical centerpiece to the game’s presentation.
The Collector’s Edition will include Digital Deluxe Edition items, an artbook, a soundtrack and a promotional card. Digital Deluxe bonuses include a Magitek Armor Key for a chocobo appearance, an “Archwitch’s Grimoire,” and starter supplies such as potions, ethers and phoenix downs.
The game is also planned for release through both Steam and the Microsoft Store on PC, in addition to its console versions.
Square Enix unveiled Final Fantasy Resonance at Tokyo Game Show 2026, revealing a turn-based RPG that marks the franchise's return to classic combat after years of action-focused entries. RPGamer reports the game adapts the first story arc of mobile hit Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, following Rain and Lasswell as they battle Veritas of the Dark to protect the world's crystals. The game launches worldwide October 22, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
This is the franchise's first mainline-style entry using HD-2D graphics, the aesthetic popularized by Octopath Traveler. GosuGamers notes the visual style stands out as a major innovation for the series, blending retro charm with modern detail in character animations and environments.
Final Fantasy Resonance brings back turn-based combat that fans haven't seen as the franchise's main direction in years. Battles include enemy-stagger and break mechanics that reward tactical planning. The game also features summoned "Visions" — appearances of iconic Final Fantasy heroes that unlock special abilities during fights, blending nostalgia with fresh strategy.
The story begins when Rain and Lasswell investigate the weakened Earth Shrine barrier. They're defeated by Veritas of the Dark, who shatters the Earth Crystal. When they return to their home kingdom of Grandshelt, they discover it under full attack and must rescue its king before embarking on their quest to restore the world's crystals.
