Officials Urge Early Voting Across Multiple States Ahead of November Election

Officials and community groups in several states are urging voters to plan ahead and cast ballots early for the November 3, 2026, election, citing the chance to avoid Election Day lines and ease pressure on polling places. Somerville, Massachusetts, has announced in-person early voting from October 17 through October 30 and reminds residents to register by October 24; Los Angeles County has also urged voters to make a plan and notes an October 19 registration deadline. In Tracy, California, organizers plan an October 17 rally to encourage early voting and participation. A letter writer in Maine recommends voting early in person, expressing personal anxiety about mail ballots and concerns about possible enforcement activity at polling places. In Teller County, Colorado, election officials encouraged early voting and said processing ballots as they arrive can reduce pressure on Election Day, while also raising concerns about ballot measures that could affect election procedures.
In Teller County, Clerk and Recorder Stephanie Kees warned that ballot measure 84 would require voters to put personal information—including their address and the last four digits of an identification number—on the outside of ballot-return envelopes. She said this could expose voters to identity theft and create additional work for county clerks.
The Tracy early-voting rally is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on October 17 at 11th Street and Corral Hollow Road; organizers describe it as a peaceful event intended to bring the community together.
Somerville notes that voters may bring their own notes or printed materials into the voting booth to help with choices, but must not display them elsewhere in the polling location and must take them when they leave the booth.
Los Angeles County voters can register or check their registration status through California’s online voter-registration website, registertovote.ca.gov.
