States Set 2026 Election Deadlines and Schedules as Voting Preparation Begins

Election officials in several states are preparing for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, with voting schedules and deadlines varying by location. Madison, Connecticut, is scheduled to mail absentee ballots Oct. 2 and hold early voting Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, with designated polling locations and same-day registration. In Washoe County, Nevada, mail ballots are scheduled to go out Oct. 5 and early voting will run Oct. 17–30; ballot signature corrections are due Nov. 9, and official results are set for Nov. 13. Voters in Belleville, Sumpter Township and Van Buren Township, Michigan, will receive replacement absentee ballots after a printing error omitted a library board contest; officials have not said how many ballots were affected. In Ohio, voters can use state and local resources to check registration, eligibility, polling places and ballot information; Cuyahoga County’s ballot includes proposed property-tax levies for safety-net and disability services and contested County Council races, while County Executive Chris Ronayne is unopposed. Ohio’s registration deadline is Oct. 5, and polls are scheduled to be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
In Madison, early-voting hours vary by date: voting is generally 10 a.m.–6 p.m., but runs 8 a.m.–8 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29. District 1 voters will use the Madison Senior Center, while District 2 voters will use Brown Elementary School.
Wayne County officials said affected Michigan voters should look for instructions accompanying their replacement ballot; Van Buren Township also plans to release images to help identify the corrected ballot. Officials had not yet advised what to do if a voter had already completed and returned the original.
Washoe County will make election oversight publicly observable: equipment logic-and-accuracy testing is scheduled for Oct. 3–16, and a livestream of the ballot-counting location is to run around the clock from Oct. 9 through the canvass. Electioneering is prohibited within 100 feet of a vote center.
Washoe County says its Registrar of Voters does not call election races; unofficial results will be updated as vote-center ballots reach the county’s Central Counting Place.
