Meta's New Personal AI Agent Muse Tops Apple Free App Chart

Muse runs on Meta’s Muse Spark 1.3 model family and operates inside secure virtual machines hosted in Meta’s cloud infrastructure.
At launch, Muse was available in the United States through iOS, Android, the web at muse.ai and WhatsApp; Meta later released a Mac version on Sept. 17, about nine days after the initial launch.
Sensor Tower estimated that Muse had more than 83,000 U.S. iOS downloads by Sept. 10, two days after launch, when it ranked No. 2 on Apple’s Top Charts.
Muse offers a free tier with usage limits as well as paid subscription plans for users who need heavier usage.
Meta’s stock rose about 0.6% following Muse’s launch, indicating a modest market reaction to the app’s early momentum.
Meta's Muse AI agent climbed to No. 1 on Apple's U.S. free app chart about a week after launch, Mac Observer reported, beating out ChatGPT and signaling strong early demand for AI tools that take action rather than just answer questions. The app can research information, fill out forms, shop online, book reservations, and connect to services like email, Spotify, and Instagram — all while asking permission for sensitive tasks.
Early users claimed Muse found cheaper insurance and discounted products, though TipRanks noted these accounts remain unverified. Despite the rapid climb, Muse's initial download volume lagged behind Meta's Threads and earlier Meta AI app launches, according to Crypto Briefing. Meta's stock rose 0.6% following the launch, a modest market reaction to the AI agent's momentum.
Muse runs on Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 model inside secure virtual machines on Meta's cloud servers. Unlike ChatGPT, which primarily answers questions, Muse actively completes tasks. It can research topics, fill web forms, purchase items, book restaurant reservations, and search for pet care services. The app integrates with email, calendars, Spotify, Instagram, and OpenTable, TipRanks reported. For sensitive actions, Muse asks users for approval before proceeding.
Muse launched on September 9 across iOS, Android, the web at muse.ai, and WhatsApp. Just nine days later, on September 18, Meta released a Mac version to compete with Apple Intelligence features on newer iPhones. Crypto Briefing reported that by September 10 — only two days after launch — Muse had attracted over 83,000 U.S. iOS downloads and ranked No. 2 on Apple's Top Charts before climbing to the top spot shortly after.
Muse represents Mark Zuckerberg's broader strategy to build personal superintelligence — AI that actively works on behalf of users across apps and services. The app offers a free tier with usage limits plus paid subscription plans for heavier users. Despite topping the charts, Mac Observer noted that Muse's early download count lagged behind Meta's Threads launch and standalone Meta AI app releases, suggesting the tool still faces competition in winning sustained user engagement beyond the initial surge.
