UK economy unexpectedly grows 0.4 percent in July, defying analyst predictions

UK economy grew by 0.4% in July, according to monthly figures from the Office for National Statistics. Economists had predicted that the level of gross domestic product in July would remain unchanged from June. In the first half of 2026, Britain's economy expanded by 1%, the fastest growth across the Group of Seven large ​advanced economies. However, some analysts believe this growth may in part reflect seasonal effects that have not been fully adjusted for. The Bank of ​England has forecasted that the economy will expand 1.1% over 2026 as a whole. The impact of the U.S.-Iran ​war has been less impactful than economists had predicted.
