IP Group Sells £21M Oxford Nanopore Stake to Increase Portfolio Flexibility

IP Group sold 10 million shares in Oxford Nanopore Technologies for about £21 million, while retaining a direct stake of roughly 70.8 million shares, or 7.23% of the company, valued at about £151.5 million. Funds managed by IP Group hold an additional 11.8 million shares. The sale gives IP Group more financial flexibility to allocate capital across its portfolio, while a 90-day lock-up applies to its remaining direct holding. The investor described Oxford Nanopore as a standout portfolio company and said it remains supportive of the business and its long-term prospects.
IP Group was a founding investor in Oxford Nanopore, providing seed funding when the company was established in 2005 and backing it through its development and London listing.
IP Group said it was targeting more than £250 million in exit realisations by the end of 2027; it had generated £85.8 million in the first nine months of the year.
IP Group’s chief executive described the transaction as demonstrating the group’s ability to realise value from maturing portfolio companies while retaining exposure to their potential future growth.
