Voters in Colorado and Missouri weigh crucial constitutional amendments on upcoming ballots.

Four proposed Colorado constitutional amendments for the 2026 ballot each require 55% approval: Amendment 85 would require ballot questions to use plain language at an eighth-grade reading level or below; Amendment 84 would require identifying information on mail ballots while allowing voters to correct errors; Amendment 82 would establish a right to buy and sell natural gas for home and business use; and Amendment 81 would require law enforcement to notify federal immigration authorities in specified cases involving people whose lawful presence cannot be verified. A Missouri opinion article argues that November’s Amendment 3 would repeal the state’s voter-approved reproductive-freedom protections and impose a new abortion ban, and contends that including a ban on gender-transition care for minors could mislead voters about the measure’s broader effects.
The Missouri reproductive-freedom provision also protects decisions about birth control, prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care and miscarriage care from government interference.
The provision additionally protects respectful birthing conditions and health care providers who deliver care within the scope of their licenses.
The opinion article places the Amendment 3 campaign in the wake of Missouri voters’ August rejection of Amendment 4, which would have restricted citizens’ ability to amend the state constitution, and Amendment 5, which would have allowed lawmakers to replace income taxes with sales taxes.
