Meta launches Muse AI agent to challenge Apple App Store revenue model

Meta formally launched an Enterprise Platform that brings together Muse, Muse API, Muse Code and Meta Business Agent, with Mark Zuckerberg calling it a “next major pillar” of the company’s business.
Chamath Palihapitiya said AI agents such as Muse put the App Store’s 30% revenue share “on notice,” arguing that agents could handle purchases outside individual apps. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted an AI- and Siri-focused “reinvention of the app store” in the next few years.
Bank of America raised concerns that Muse could challenge Apple’s ecosystem; the article reported that Muse had surpassed 2.5 million downloads shortly after launch and said Apple’s revamped Siri was not yet matching Muse’s functionality.

Muse has already surpassed 2.5 million downloads shortly after launch Bloomberg. The product threatens Apple's App Store economics: if AI agents increasingly handle purchases outside individual apps, Apple's traditional 30% cut could shrink. Most users will stick with the free tier, but Meta introduced paid options to prove the product can generate real money. Jim Cramer argues this move gives investors a tangible way to measure Muse's commercial viability and could push Meta's valuation higher by positioning it as enterprise software, not just a social platform CNBC.
Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya said AI agents like Muse put the App Store's 30% revenue share "on notice." If agents handle purchases directly instead of routing users to individual apps, Apple loses its cut The Information. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicted Apple will "reinvent the app store" in the next few years, likely centered on AI and Siri, to compete Bloomberg.
Bank of America raised concerns that Muse could erode Apple's ecosystem advantage BofA Research. Apple's revamped Siri is not yet matching Muse's functionality for business tasks, giving Meta an early lead. However, the threat remains theoretical: Muse currently still runs on the iPhone, meaning Apple retains platform control The Verge. Whether Meta can build a durable commerce revenue stream depends on whether Muse adoption and transaction volume actually scale beyond early downloads.
