The Free Press Journal describes COPD in India as a leading cause of death and disability.
Lupin has launched Formoflo-G MDI, described as the world's first fixed-dose triple-combination inhaler for COPD, following approval from India's Drug Controller General. The Hindu Business Line reports the inhaler combines three active ingredients—glycopyrronium bromide, formoterol fumarate, and fluticasone propionate—in a twice-daily metered-dose formula designed for long-term management of moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
COPD affects more than 55 million people in India and ranks among the leading causes of death and disability in the country. The launch strengthens Lupin's position as India's second-largest respiratory therapy company and supports its strategy to expand its inhalation product portfolio beyond 20 products already in development.
Formoflo-G MDI is the first metered-dose inhaler to combine three COPD medicines in a single fixed-dose formulation taken twice daily. Economic Times confirms the combination includes a long-acting bronchodilator, a beta-2 agonist, and an inhaled corticosteroid—three drug classes that work together to open airways and reduce inflammation in COPD patients.
Simplifying a triple therapy into one device is significant. Patients no longer need to coordinate three separate inhalers or remember multiple dosing schedules. This single-inhaler approach can improve patient compliance and make breathing management more straightforward for people managing a chronic lung condition.
Lupin reported robust Q1 FY27 results that underscore its momentum in the respiratory sector. Net sales jumped 33.3% year over year to Rs. 8,217 crore, while EBITDA surged 50.1% to Rs. 2,464 crore and net income climbed 16.1% to Rs. 1,415 crore. These gains reflect strong demand across the company's portfolio and successful product launches.
The strong financial performance provides Lupin with resources to invest in its expanded complex-product pipeline. Moneycontrol notes the company is developing more than 20 inhalation products, positioning it to capture growing demand in India's respiratory care market as COPD awareness and treatment uptake increase.
COPD remains a major health burden across India, affecting tens of millions of people. The disease ranks among the top causes of death and disability nationwide, driven by factors including air pollution, smoking, and occupational exposures. Many patients with COPD require long-term medication to manage symptoms and prevent flare-ups.
By offering a new triple-therapy option, Lupin addresses a treatment gap for moderate to severe COPD patients who may benefit from combination therapy. News18 reports the launch expands available treatment paths for Indian patients, complementing Lupin's existing respiratory franchise and reinforcing the company's commitment to respiratory disease management.
