Ukraine Asks Trump About Using Starlink for Strikes Inside Russia

During a meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Ukrainian officials reportedly asked current President Donald Trump whether Ukraine could use Starlink for strikes against targets inside Russia. According to an anonymous Ukrainian official cited by Newsmax journalist Nana Sajaia, Trump replied, “You have to talk to Elon,” referring to SpaceX founder Elon Musk, whose company controls access to the system. The meeting was described by Ukrainian officials as very positive, while the two sides also discussed possible Patriot missile production in Ukraine and de-escalation efforts. Ukraine reportedly expressed readiness for a reciprocal energy truce with Russia, but Kyiv said it would continue striking Russian energy facilities unless Moscow stopped attacking Ukrainian infrastructure. The Starlink account has not been officially confirmed by the White House, SpaceX, Musk or the Ukrainian delegation, and previous statements about Musk authorizing such operations were later disputed.
Following the meeting, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated that he was prepared to join a direct trilateral meeting with Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war.
Ukrainian negotiators were expected to meet representatives of France, Germany and the United Kingdom—the E3—to discuss de-escalation proposals that would later be conveyed to the Russian side by Trump’s representatives.
The reports said Ukraine views Starlink access in Russia as potentially important for targeting ballistic-missile launchers, amid a shortage of Ukrainian air-defense missiles and continuing Russian drone and ballistic-missile attacks.
Earlier reporting cited by the articles said Elon Musk had declined to authorize Starlink use inside Russia because he feared the move could escalate the war and believed the time had come to pursue a peace agreement.
When asked whether Ukraine could still retake all territory occupied by Russia, Trump did not give a direct answer and instead said he expected Kyiv and Moscow to reach an agreement.
