China unveils 20,000 cultural events and millions in tourism vouchers for Mid-Autumn Festival.

China’s Mid-Autumn Festival is being marked with a broad mix of cultural celebrations and tourism promotions. A global China Media Group gala will combine traditional performances with contemporary technology, including an 8,000-drone display and international musical collaborations. Across China, localities are planning more than 20,000 cultural and tourism events and offering over 310 million yuan in vouchers and subsidies, while Chongqing is preparing performances, lantern fairs, sports competitions and expanded travel services. In Xinjiang, a gathering for Taiwan compatriots used festival performances and social activities to promote cross-strait ties. Chinese community groups in Lagos also celebrated the festival alongside China’s National Day and Nigeria’s Independence Day, highlighting China-Nigeria relations and community initiatives.
The gala marks 20 years since the Mid-Autumn Festival was included on China’s first national intangible cultural heritage list, and will present Huagudeng folk dance, shadow puppetry and tofu banquets in contemporary, interactive formats.
Chongqing’s holiday program includes the CFA Team China International Football Competitions Chongqing 2026, beginning Sept. 24, with China scheduled to play the Maldives, New Zealand, Palestine and Tajikistan.
The Lagos celebration also marked the China Industrial & Commercial Enterprise Association’s 23rd anniversary, inaugurated its fifth council and unveiled the Nigeria HuaXing Children’s Art Troupe.
In Jiangxi’s Xunwu County, a villager said her workshop was selling about 7,000 traditional moonlight cakes daily and struggling to keep up with demand.
