Raytheon Secures $20.7 Billion Defense Contract to Accelerate Missile Production

Raytheon, RTX’s defense unit, received a Defense Department contract worth up to $20.7 billion to accelerate production of AMRAAM air-to-air missiles over five years, with two option years. The company says it aims to raise output to record levels to meet demand from U.S. forces and international partners, after nearly doubling production in 2025 compared with 2024. The award is part of the Trump administration’s effort to increase munitions production amid stockpile pressures from the war in Iran; Raytheon has also pursued European component production with NATO allies.
A separate agreement announced earlier in 2026 supports annual production of at least 1,900 AMRAAM missiles.
AMRAAM is fielded by 44 countries and operates on 14 platforms; RTX says it has recorded more than 7,000 successful live fires in testing and combat.
The missile serves both air-to-air missions and as the primary interceptor for the NASAMS air-defense system; RTX says upgraded processors allow agile software updates.
Raytheon said it is working with hundreds of small and midsized U.S. suppliers as it scales production and explores international co-production.
AMRAAM has been widely used in recent conflicts, including the wars in Ukraine and Iran.
