Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Face Contrasting Exits from International Football

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to retire from international football at the same time, with Messi set to play his final game for Argentina against Benin in Buenos Aires. Ronaldo, however, has left the Portugal camp following a disagreement over being left on the bench for their UEFA Nations League game against Norway, and coach Jorge Jesus' explanation for this. Despite mixed reactions to the appointment of Jesus, there are now clear that Ronaldo will return for a valedictory appearance. Both players have been indulged in their national teams, while Messi has been able to be in the team even though he is no longer able to play. Ronaldo's decision to leave the national team training camp was seen as a sign of disrespect towards the Portuguese Football Federation.
