India Launches National Digital Tourism Stack to Streamline Travel Bookings and Local Experiences

India’s Tourism Ministry launched the National Digital Tourism Stack on World Tourism Day 2026, partnering with the Open Network for Digital Commerce to connect tourism services across participating platforms. The system is intended to make offerings easier to find, verify and book, with features such as payments, ratings and grievance redressal; officials aim to onboard 23,000 tourism experiences and homestays by the end of 2028. The ministry also launched Dekho Apna Desh 2.0, a mission to encourage visitors to explore lesser-known destinations and spread tourism’s economic benefits more widely. To support destination promotion and responsible tourism, it announced partnerships with Airbnb India, FlixBus India, Glance Digital Experience, Eicher Group Foundation and MakeMyTrip.
Tourism Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar said artificial intelligence would form the stack’s front end, with a “One ticket, One pass” vision to bring different parts of a tourist’s journey together. He said travelers currently have to book flights, hotels, cabs, boat rides and even temple aarti through separate websites, making trip planning digitally painful.
The International Centre for DPI Innovation and Advancement (ICDIA) is supporting development of the National Digital Tourism Stack alongside ONDC.
Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said travelers increasingly seek authentic experiences, including local cuisine, art and traditions, and called for tourism growth to create opportunities for local communities, entrepreneurs, women and young people.
The digital tourism programme is to be implemented in phases with the involvement of the Tourism Ministry, states, Union territories and the tourism industry.
