UGC NET December 2026 will be conducted in CBT mode to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes, as applicable under the UGC NET framework. NTA is expected to issue separate city-intimation slips and admit cards specifying centres, shifts and reporting times.
Beyond the examinations highlighted in the summary, NTA’s calendar also includes JEE Main Session 1, the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination and CUET (PG) through March 2027.
India's National Testing Agency released a tentative exam calendar on September 18, 2026, mapping out major entrance and eligibility tests through March 2027. The calendar includes the Joint CSIR-UGC NET on December 20-21, UGC NET from December 14-19, NIFT 2027 on January 10, and CMAT 2027 on February 7. NTA warned that the calendar is not final and candidates must check official portals for application deadlines, admit cards, and any date changes.
The exams determine eligibility for academic positions and admission to top institutions across India. UGC NET qualifies candidates for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor roles, while NIFT offers admission to design programmes across 20 campuses. NTA emphasized consulting exam-specific notifications for the latest updates.
The Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026 exam will run December 20-21 in computer-based test mode. This test determines who qualifies for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship or Assistant Professor positions in science and technology fields, NTA confirmed. The separate UGC NET December 2026 exam runs December 14-19, with December 20-21 held in reserve as buffer dates for overflow candidates.
NTA will issue separate city-intimation slips and admit cards specifying exam centres, shifts, and reporting times. The UGC NET also determines eligibility for Assistant Professor appointments and PhD programme admission under the UGC NET framework. Candidates must check the official portal for admit card release dates.
The NIFT 2027 entrance exam will be held on January 10, 2027, offering admission to undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes across 20 NIFT campuses. Online applications are expected to open in November or December 2026. The exam format varies by programme: B.Des and M.Des candidates take both the General Ability Test and Creative Ability Test, while B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and M.F.M candidates take only the General Ability Test.
The General Ability Test is computer-based, while the Creative Ability Test uses pen-and-paper format, NTA stated. Candidates should monitor official NIFT portals for exact application opening dates and other examination details as the January 10 date approaches.
CMAT 2027 is tentatively scheduled for February 7, 2027, but NTA cautioned that the date may change. The exam tests quantitative techniques, logical reasoning, language comprehension, general awareness, and innovation and entrepreneurship. Online registration is expected to begin toward the end of 2026.
Because the February 7 date is for planning purposes only, candidates should not finalize study schedules until the confirmed date is announced. NTA advised all CMAT aspirants to regularly check the official website for any revisions or updates to the examination schedule.
Beyond the exams highlighted above, NTA's tentative calendar through March 2027 also includes JEE Main Session 1, the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination, and CUET (PG). The calendar serves as a planning tool for prospective candidates preparing for multiple entrance and eligibility tests.
NTA stressed that the tentative calendar is not a substitute for official examination notifications. Candidates must consult exam-specific announcements for exact application windows, eligibility criteria, fee details, and any rescheduled dates to avoid missing critical deadlines.
