Robinhood announced a sweeping expansion of its trading platform at its Houston summit, rolling out weekend stock trading for a curated selection of U.S. stocks and ETFs, AI-powered trading agents, and crypto perpetual futures with up to 10× leverage. The Daily Upside reported that CEO Vlad Tenev believes these AI-assisted, 24/7 investing tools could create a "new market." The moves extend Robinhood's weekday 24-hour trading service, which has already captured as much as 25% of daily volume during busy days outside regular market hours.
The weekend trading feature is pending regulatory review and will use Bruce ATS to execute trades. Financial News noted that despite an initial 5% stock pop following the announcement, Robinhood shares gave back those gains and traded lower on Wednesday. The announcements reflect a broader industry push toward extended trading hours, though thinner liquidity outside regular sessions could mean less favorable prices for retail investors.

Robinhood introduced weekday 24-hour trading about 10 months ago. Weekend trading, using Bruce ATS, extends this around-the-clock model and is awaiting regulatory sign-off. Thinner liquidity during off-hours sessions means fewer buyers and sellers, potentially leading to wider bid-ask spreads and less favorable execution prices.
Robinhood launched Robinhood Social, a community feature meant to connect retail traders. Yahoo Finance reported that Vice President of Product Management Abhishek Fatehpuria said the company aims to narrow the gap between retail traders and the tools available to hedge funds. By combining AI agents, crypto futures, and extended trading hours, Robinhood is positioning itself as the platform for around-the-clock, algorithmic investing.
