Strait of Hormuz Vessel Strike Injures Eleven Indian Sailors Aboard Commercial Ship

Seventeen of the vessel’s 19 crew members were Indian nationals, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
The MEA identified the vessel as MT On Peace, with the IMO number 9893204.
India thanked Omani authorities for their support in evacuating the injured and assisting with their treatment.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for global shipping and energy trade, making attacks on vessels there a particular concern for countries whose citizens serve on commercial ships.
A projectile struck the Panama-flagged vessel MT On Peace as it traveled through the Strait of Hormuz off Oman, injuring 11 Indian sailors on October 6. Free Press Journal reported that 12 of the ship's 19 crew members were hurt in the attack. Omani authorities evacuated the wounded to Khasab for medical care.
India's Ministry of External Affairs condemned the assault and demanded an immediate halt to attacks on merchant ships and civilian infrastructure. The Hindu reported that 17 of the vessel's 19 crew members were Indian nationals. The incident highlights ongoing dangers in one of the world's busiest shipping routes for energy and trade.
The Strait of Hormuz funnels roughly one-fifth of global oil and natural gas through a narrow chokepoint between Iran and Oman. The Print noted that attacks on vessels in this corridor threaten seafarers from countries like India whose citizens make up large shares of international maritime crews. Even single strikes disrupt trade routes worth hundreds of billions annually.
New Delhi issued a sharp statement condemning what it called unprovoked aggression against commercial shipping. The Ministry of External Affairs specifically thanked Omani authorities for their swift evacuation of the injured sailors and ongoing medical support. Greater Kashmir reported that India called for restoration of safe passage through international waterways.
The MT On Peace attack marks another strike in a pattern of escalating maritime violence. Rediff reported that Indian crew members face particular risk because they dominate the staffing rosters of commercial vessels operating through contested waters. With 17 of 19 sailors on this ship being Indian nationals, attacks in the Hormuz region pose a direct threat to workers from New Delhi's maritime sector.
