First Atlas Identifies Two Nova Scotia Hydrogen Drill Targets in Recent Campaign

First Atlas Resources has delineated two high-priority natural hydrogen drill targets in Nova Scotia’s Oxford–Salt Springs area after a July–August 2026 soil-gas densification campaign conducted by Quebec Innovative Materials. The infill program tightened sampling around previously identified hydrogen anomalies and measured hydrogen alongside other gases, including helium, to improve their definition and continuity. The company is integrating the results with structural and surficial geology, GIS data, and ground-based gravity and magnetic surveys in the structurally complex Cumberland Basin. This work is intended to finalize drill-collar locations, orientations, and depths, with NQ core drilling planned subject to permitting, field conditions, and operational considerations.
The soil-gas program measured hydrogen together with hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), with helium incorporated later in the campaign.
The target area contains intersecting northwest–southeast, east–west and northeast–southwest faults within folded Windsor Formation and Cumberland Group rocks. Geologist Edward Procyshyn is evaluating these structures as possible permeability pathways for hydrogen migrating from depth.
The technical team is accounting for variable glacial overburden, which can influence how much hydrogen reaches the surface and therefore affect interpretation of soil-gas anomalies.
Richard Penn said the campaign was designed to take previously identified anomalies and “systematically increase the resolution around them to define specific locations for drill testing.”
First Atlas is a Vancouver-based company listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker HHE, and the work is being conducted on its Salt Springs licensed properties in Nova Scotia.
