Chessington World of Adventures Announces £50m Park and First Minecraft Hotel

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios plan to open Minecraft World, an immersive themed area at Chessington World of Adventures in the UK, in 2027, including the world’s first Minecraft-themed hotel. The four-story hotel will have 69 rooms—20 premium and 49 standard—designed around the game’s biomes, creatures and blocky landscapes, plus an underwater-themed restaurant and a Woodland Mansion-inspired bar. The park land will also feature Escape the Nether, an indoor rollercoaster that takes riders through dark mines and out through a Nether portal, alongside interactive activities, themed dining and retail. The project is a reported £50 million collaboration between the companies.
Although the hotel is slated to open in 2027, the companies had not announced a specific opening date.
The hotel’s design is also expected to include details such as lifts and mine-tunnel corridors, bringing elements of the game into its interior spaces.
Concept art for Minecraft World has shown wooden houses, Creepers and TNT blocks, while planned features include block-built playscapes and a Nether-themed dining area.
Merlin creative producer Daisy Mercedes said that every room, corridor and detail was crafted with affection for the game, its stories and its community.
