Delhi Police Imposes Section 163 And Prohibits All Protests Today

Delhi Police has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, across New Delhi District to maintain public safety and ensure smooth traffic flow, News on Air reported. The order prohibits unauthorized gatherings, public speeches, processions, demonstrations, and dharnas throughout the district.
No permission has been granted for any protest scheduled today, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police for New Delhi. The department urged all citizens to comply with the order and cooperate with police enforcement.
Section 163 bans a broad range of activities designed to gather crowds. News on Air specified that unauthorized assemblies, public speeches, processions, demonstrations, and sit-ins (dharnas) are all prohibited under the order. The law also restricts other specified activities that could disrupt public order.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police stated the order aims to protect public safety and maintain smooth traffic movement across New Delhi District. Gallinews noted that the police cited the need for public order as a key reason for the sweeping restrictions. The order applies district-wide, not just specific locations.
Delhi Police confirmed that zero protest permits have been issued for today, Munisif Daily reported. Citizens planning to gather must recognize that even organized demonstrations require advance police permission, which has been denied across the district for this date.
The police department issued a direct appeal to residents to follow the prohibitory order and work with enforcement officials. Social News XYZ reported the police emphasis on compliance to prevent potential disruptions and maintain order in the capital's central district.
