Elis Lima Carneiro, a child in Brazil who rose to fame due to her struggle with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, has died at age 5. Her Instagram page announced her death on Wednesday, with a wake being held at a chapel in Boa Vista and the burial taking place immediately after. Elis had over 1.5 million followers on social media and documented her struggles with Hutchinson ProgerIA Syndrome, a rare disease that causes premature aging in children. The condition is fatal and estimates its odds of being diagnosed are between 1 in 4 million and 1 in 8 million. Elises' older brother, Guilherme Lago, said he believed his sister left behind a larger legacy than he could imagine, including touching many people and highlighting rare diseases.
