Angkor Resources secures environmental approval to pursue exploratory drilling across four Cambodian sub-basins.

Angkor Resources’ Cambodian subsidiary, EnerCam, received final environmental approval to pursue exploratory drilling across four sub-basins of its Block VIII onshore oil and gas concession. The approval clears an environmental review milestone, but drilling is not yet authorized to begin: EnerCam must obtain Ministry of Mines and Energy approvals for specific drilling components, complete the contractor tender and engage a drilling contractor. Its proposed program calls for one well in each sub-basin, with a fifth location to be selected based on the initial results. The project follows completed seismic work and could support Cambodia’s effort to develop domestic hydrocarbon supplies, but a firm drilling date and any discovery remain uncertain.
The environmental impact assessment and drilling permit were reviewed at an inter-ministerial session in Phnom Penh on July 14, 2026, attended by more than 26 representatives from five ministries and three provinces.
The four sub-basins covered by the approval span Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong and Kampong Speu provinces.
Before the drilling tender is published, the 70-plus-page tender document must be reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Mines and Energy; EnerCam is also conducting due diligence on potential contractors.
The company estimates that mobilizing drilling equipment will take approximately three months after a drilling contractor is engaged.
