Kennedy Center Honors Moved to Capital One Arena Amid Ongoing Legal Battle

The annual Kennedy Center Honors will be moved from the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts (John F. Center) to Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, DC, on December 7. This is the first time the event will be held outside the Kennedy Center. The main building of the Kennedy Centre is currently locked in a dispute with the Trump-aligned board and leadership, arguing that it must close for a two-year renovation. They argue that President Donald Trump's help is needed to raise funds for the renovation, and that his name should be added to the institution to acknowledge his efforts. These issues are being contested in a federal court. The Kennedy Center's executive director, Matt Floca, has told the court that the building must remain closed due to safety concerns.
