Aldi Lowers Prices Across Nearly a Third of U.S. Stores Through Early November

Aldi is also cutting prices on ground and organic whole-bean coffee, mixed nuts, dried fruit and paper towels—items beyond the fresh produce and chicken highlighted in the announcement.
Honeycrisp apples are priced at $1.99 per pound, which Aldi says is more than one-third below their 2025 price.
Aldi Chief Commercial Officer Scott Patton said the company is seeking operational efficiencies to pass savings to shoppers, adding that the reductions target “better-for-you favorites” as customers begin fall routines and healthier habits.
The advertised savings may not apply uniformly across shopping channels: Aldi says prices and availability can vary by location, while online and delivery orders may cost more than buying the same items in stores.
Competitors are running their own targeted promotions: Stop & Shop launched a four-week “Dollar Deals” campaign with rotating products priced at $1 or less, while BJ’s announced a 42% discount on a range of foods and other goods.
Aldi is slashing prices on nearly one-third of its products, effective September 23 through at least November 3, with the company estimating the cuts will save shoppers $86 million. Yahoo News reported that the reductions span fresh produce, lean proteins, coffee, nuts and paper towels. Kirkwood chicken breast family packs dropped to $1.99 per pound, while honeycrisp apples fell to $1.99 per pound—more than one-third below 2025 prices.
The move reflects intensifying competition as groceries remain elevated and competitors like Walmart, Kroger, Stop & Shop and BJ's pursue aggressive discounts. Dexerto noted that Aldi says nearly one-third of its regularly stocked items now cost less than a year ago, though this figure excludes seasonal items and limited-time Aldi Finds.
Aldi Chief Commercial Officer Scott Patton said the company seeks operational efficiencies to pass savings to shoppers. He stated: "Value is a year-round promise, not a promotion." Patton emphasized the reductions target "better-for-you favorites" as customers enter fall routines and pursue healthier habits. The Independent reported the price cuts arrived at all U.S. locations nearly simultaneously, signaling a coordinated national campaign rather than regional testing.
The price cuts go beyond headline items. Ground and organic whole-bean coffee, mixed nuts, dried fruit and paper towels all dropped in price. Honeycrisp apples at $1.99 per pound represent the lowest price in five or more years. AOL confirmed that Kirkwood chicken breast family packs—a private-label staple—now sit at $1.99 per pound, the lowest point since 2022.
Competitors are matching Aldi's aggression. Stop & Shop launched a four-week "Dollar Deals" campaign with rotating products priced at $1 or less. AOL reported that BJ's Wholesale Club announced a 42% discount on a range of foods and other goods. Walmart and Kroger continue their own targeted promotions to capture price-conscious consumers amid persistent inflation and elevated fuel costs.
Aldi notes that advertised prices apply at physical stores. Yahoo News reported that online and delivery orders may carry higher costs than buying the same items in person. Prices and availability can also vary by location. This difference highlights a key challenge for shoppers: discount grocers offer the lowest prices only when customers shop in stores, not through digital channels.
