FC Dallas Loses 1-0 to San Diego as New Goalkeeper Britto Suffers Injury

San Diego FC earned a 1-0 win over FC Dallas on Saturday, handing the visiting side a setback made worse by an injury to newly signed goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto, according to Herald Bulletin. Alejandro Alvarado scored his first career MLS goal early in the second half to seal the result.
De Sousa Britto was forced off the field after sustaining an injury, with backup Jonathan Sirois stepping in to finish the match, Winnipeg Free Press reported. The clean sheet was San Diego's first in four home starts this season.
Alejandro Alvarado broke the deadlock early in the second half with what KDH News described as a "nifty shot." It was the first career goal of his MLS career. Defenders Manu Duah and Kieran Sargeant both picked up assists on the play.
It was also a night of firsts on the defensive end. The assist was Duah's first career MLS helper in his second season with the club. Sargeant added his second career assist, according to Post Register.
De Sousa Britto came in as a new signing for FC Dallas but lasted only part of the match before going down with an injury. He was replaced by Jonathan Sirois, Yakima Herald reported. The nature and severity of the injury were not immediately disclosed.
Sirois had been acquired from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for up to $1 million in general allocation money, according to CA Sports Yahoo. General allocation money is a transfer currency used in MLS to sign and acquire players. Sirois held the line the rest of the way but could not prevent the loss.
San Diego FC had struggled to keep clean sheets entering this match, with their defense allowing goals in each of their first three home starts. Saturday's shutout ended that run. The 1-0 result gave the club a much-needed defensive milestone, according to HNG News.
The win shows early promise for San Diego's backline. Duah and Sargeant, both defenders, contributed directly to the winning goal. That combination of solid defending and attacking contribution from the back could be a positive sign for the club going forward.
The loss puts FC Dallas in a difficult spot. The club had just brought in De Sousa Britto as a new addition to strengthen their goalkeeping depth. Losing him to injury so quickly adds pressure on Sirois and the rest of the squad, according to Leader Telegram.
FC Dallas will need to monitor De Sousa Britto's condition ahead of upcoming fixtures. A prolonged absence could force the club to rely heavily on Sirois, who now steps into a starting role earlier than expected. Dallas has little margin for error if they want to stay competitive in the Western Conference standings.
