China's Enflame Technology Sets September 2 Date for $900 Million Shanghai IPO

Enflame Technology, one of China's leading AI chipmakers, will open share subscriptions on September 2 for its 6 billion yuan ($892.21 million) IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market, Reuters reported. The offering includes 8.61 million shares for strategic investors, 27.54 million for institutions, and 6.89 million for retail buyers, with proceeds earmarked for fifth- and sixth-generation AI chip development.
Enflame, backed by tech giant Tencent Holdings, is racing to capitalize on China's booming AI sector. The STAR Market, Shanghai's tech-focused exchange, has become the preferred venue for Chinese AI and semiconductor companies seeking rapid capital raises and high valuations.
Enflame's IPO timing raises questions about valuation excesses in China's AI space. Unitree, a humanoid robot maker, saw its shares plummet 45% after surging more than fivefold on its Shanghai debut—a stark warning about overheated investor appetite for AI-related stocks.
The 892 million dollars Enflame raises will fund development and commercialization of its advanced AI chips. The company also plans to invest in collaborative software and hardware innovation projects to strengthen its competitive position against rivals like Huawei and NVIDIA.
China's STAR Market launched in 2019 to nurture homegrown tech champions. Unlike traditional Chinese exchanges, it allows faster IPO approvals and permits unprofitable companies to list—a critical advantage for costly R&D-focused chipmakers like Enflame competing against entrenched Western competitors.
