Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Invites Karnataka Sugarcane Farmers to Delhi for Talks

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi invited Karnataka sugarcane farmers to Delhi to discuss their demand for a higher Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP), urging them to pursue dialogue rather than a planned protest in Hubballi. Joshi said the Centre had raised the FRP in May after farmer leaders sought an increase earlier in the year, and pledged to hear growers’ concerns. He said any further revision would take into account recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices and Karnataka’s Cane Commissioner.
The planned Hubballi protest was organized by the Karnataka State Raitha Sena, whose members intended to march to Joshi’s residence and office and demand implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations.
Joshi said he had not met farmer representatives again after the May FRP increase, and suggested that the lack of follow-up discussions may have led some growers to believe their earlier request had not been considered.
Joshi said farmer leaders who travel to Delhi would be arranged to meet the officials concerned directly to discuss their demands and seek solutions.
