Rockstar Opens Preorders for Controversial $400 GTA 6 Merchandise Bundle Lacking Game

The bundle’s Oakley sunglasses may account for a substantial share of its price: Article 1 says the glasses generally retail for around $200.
The six-inch Macca the Gator figure has a stash compartment, according to GameSpot.
The package also includes a magnetic mirror, a razor-blade keychain, an enamel pin set in a metal tin, and a sticker pack in a stash bag.
Rockstar has limited the collection to one per person, a measure NME says is intended to help combat scalping.
Rockstar has opened preorders for a $399.99 merchandise bundle called the Grand Theft Auto 6: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, arriving November 19 alongside the game. Tech4Gamers reports the bundle includes Oakley sunglasses, a six-inch Macca the Gator figure, a crossbody bag, a hat, a shot glass, and a map poster—but no game copy.
The high price and disc-free game format have sparked criticism from consumers and retailers. MP1st notes that Oakley sunglasses typically retail around $200, suggesting they account for much of the bundle's cost. Rockstar limited purchases to one per person to combat scalping.
The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection packs far more than sunglasses and a gator. Tech4Gamers confirms the six-inch Macca the Gator figure has a stash compartment. The package also includes a magnetic mirror, a razor-blade keychain, an enamel pin set in a metal tin, and a sticker pack in a stash bag.
Rockstar has not sold these items individually. Buyers must purchase the entire bundle or get nothing. Vice reports the collection arrives November 19, matching the game's launch day. Preorders began immediately after the reveal.
Retailers in the UK, Europe, and Japan are displaying pre-release game cases that contain download codes instead of discs. MP1st reports preloading begins November 12, three weeks before launch. The cases show protagonists Jason and Lucia, a Vintage Vice City Pack preorder offer, and game synopsis.
Unlike earlier Grand Theft Auto physical releases, these cases apparently omit printed maps. The shift to digital distribution marks a major change for console games historically sold with physical media.
The $400 price tag has drawn fire because it excludes the actual game. Consumers must buy GTA 6 separately, making the true cost far higher for collectors. The one-per-person limit suggests Rockstar anticipated demand outpacing supply—and scalpers trying to flip them.
The disc-free format also concerns physical media collectors. Many fans prefer owning games on physical discs rather than relying on digital codes. Technetbooks notes this represents a broader industry shift away from traditional game packaging.
