Cypress Capital Rebalances Portfolio in Q1 with Strategic Shifts Across Bonds, Equities, and International ETFs

AGG opened at $97.46 on Friday; its 50-day moving average is $98.45 and 200-day moving average is $99.32, with a 12-month low of $97.27 and a high of $101.46; market cap around $137.58 billion and a P/E ratio near 12.
TJX director Jackwyn Nemerov sold 957 shares of TJX on Thursday, June 11, at an average price of $168.59, reducing her position to 802 shares.
EWY opened at $162.96 on Friday, with the ETF's recent price context noted alongside its longer-term moving averages (50-day around $189.68 and 200-day around $154.35).
About 49.22% of EWY shares are currently owned by institutional investors and hedge funds.
Viewpoint Capital Management LLC boosted its EWY stake by 20,000% in the first quarter, now owning 201 shares worth about $25,000 after purchasing 200 additional shares.
Cypress Capital Group sold 60,276 shares of iShares Silver Trust (SLV) in the first quarter, cutting its stake by 26.3%, according to Ticker Report. The firm still holds 168,822 shares valued at roughly $11.5 million, making SLV its 23rd largest holding.
The silver ETF trim was just one piece of a broader portfolio shuffle. Cypress also added to its bond holdings, boosted its South Korea exposure dramatically, and trimmed its stake in retailer TJX — all in the same quarter, according to Watchlist News.
While cutting SLV, Cypress moved in the opposite direction on bonds. The firm increased its position in iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (AGG) by 32.9%, according to Watchlist News. It now holds 35,741 shares worth about $3.55 million. AGG opened Friday at $97.46, well below its 200-day moving average of $99.32.
The shift suggests Cypress is moving some money out of commodities and into more stable fixed-income assets. AGG tracks the broad U.S. bond market. Its market cap sits around $137.58 billion, with a P/E ratio near 12, according to Ticker Report.
The boldest move Cypress made was in the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY). The firm grew its stake by 235.6%, bringing its total to 25,340 shares worth about $3.12 million, per Ticker Report. That is a major increase in international exposure in just three months.
EWY opened Friday at $162.96. That is well below its 50-day moving average of $189.68 but above its 200-day moving average of $154.35. About 49.22% of EWY shares are owned by institutional investors and hedge funds. Cypress was not alone in adding exposure — Viewpoint Capital Management boosted its EWY stake by 20,000% in Q1, though it only bought 200 shares, now holding 201 total worth about $25,000.
Cypress also cut its stake in The TJX Companies by 5% in Q1. The firm now holds 90,272 shares worth roughly $14.4 million, according to Ticker Report. TJX is a major off-price retail chain that owns brands like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.
The trim coincides with insider selling at TJX. Director Jackwyn Nemerov sold 957 shares on June 11 at an average price of $168.59 per share. That sale reduced her total position to just 802 shares, per Watchlist News.
Cypress did not stop at SLV and TJX. The firm also cut its holdings in The Sherwin-Williams Company by 29.6% in Q1, according to Ticker Report. It now owns 3,965 shares worth about $1.27 million. That is a steep reduction in one of the country's largest paint and coatings companies.
Taken together, Cypress's Q1 moves show a clear pattern. The firm pulled back from commodities, single stocks, and domestic equities. It put more money into bonds and international markets. The moves reflect broader hedge fund trends of rebalancing across sectors as market conditions shift.
