Triumph Expands Entry-Level Lineup With New Bonneville T40 and T40 Black

Triumph revised more than the engine to distinguish the T40 from its 400-series siblings: it replaces their bolt-on subframe with a one-piece frame, uses twin shocks and conventional front forks, and adds fork boots.
The bikes offer three preset riding modes—Road, Rain and Eco—plus two customisable modes; riders can adjust throttle response, traction control and ABS, with settings accessible through a quick menu on the left-hand switchgear.
One report says the T40 also gets cruise control, lean-sensitive cornering ABS and cornering traction control—features beyond the general rider aids noted in the summary.
The reported output figures differ substantially: Visordown gives 32PS and 36Nm, with peak torque arriving at 5,000rpm, while RevZilla reports 30.6 horsepower and 26.55lb-ft at the same respective engine speeds.
Triumph has revealed the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, entry-level roadsters that bring classic Bonneville styling to the 350cc class. MCNews reports the bikes feature a teardrop tank, spoked wheels, and peashooter exhausts paired with a revised engine tuned for relaxed, low-rev power. The standard T40 emphasizes chrome and two-tone finishes, while the T40 Black uses darker paint and blacked-out components.
The T40 goes well beyond cosmetic changes. MCNews explains that Triumph replaced the bolt-on subframe found on its 400-series bikes with a one-piece frame. The bike also uses twin rear shocks and conventional front forks—upgrades that improve ride quality and handling feel compared to the smaller-displacement models in the range.
Modern electronics set the T40 apart from simple retro bikes. The motorcycles offer three preset riding modes—Road, Rain and Eco—plus two customisable modes where riders can adjust throttle response, traction control and ABS. Motoroids reports that a circular TFT display with smartphone connectivity puts all controls within reach through quick-access menus on the left-hand switchgear. Motoroids also notes the T40 includes cruise control and cornering-specific safety features like lean-sensitive ABS and cornering traction control.
Specifications vary between sources. DriveSpark reports the 350cc single-cylinder engine produces 29 horsepower and 31.2 Newton-meters of torque. However, MCNews cites higher output figures of 32 PS and 36 Nm, with peak torque arriving at 5,000 rpm. The discrepancy suggests either preliminary versus final specs or differences in how power is measured across markets.
The T40 brings Bonneville design language to riders stepping into the brand. BikeWale notes that India pricing starts at Rs 2.55 lakh for the standard model, positioning it as Triumph's most accessible Bonneville. CarandBike confirms the bikes retain Bonneville family styling while being built on the compact 350cc platform, offering classic appeal without the weight or cost of larger models.
