ICE Evaluates Avalanche for 24/7 Tokenized Trading

Any final platform would need to connect with transfer agents, stablecoin issuers, broker-dealers and market infrastructure such as the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC).
Ava Labs said the NYSE has spent roughly the past year testing Avalanche technology, although Ava Labs President Charley Cooper cautioned that the NYSE itself should speak publicly about where the evaluation stands.
Cooper predicted that some venues could begin offering 24-hour weekday trading within a year, while expressing less confidence that the largest global exchanges would move that quickly; he also suggested smaller venues may attract liquidity first.
The proposed system does not yet have a launch date, and the final timeline, structure and blockchain selection remain pending.
Intercontinental Exchange is evaluating Avalanche as the blockchain backbone for a planned 24/7 trading platform that would let investors buy and sell tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs around the clock, according to Hoka News. The system, announced in January 2026, would combine the NYSE's proven Pillar matching engine with on-chain settlement and stablecoin transactions, pending regulatory approval.
ICE executive Michael Blaugrund said Avalanche meets key requirements including speed, institutional wallet support, and compatibility with existing financial infrastructure, but emphasized the company has not yet finalized a blockchain partner, Bitcoin News reported. ICE has also identified tZERO as a design partner and may ultimately support multiple blockchain options.Bitcoin News
The New York Stock Exchange has spent roughly the past year testing Avalanche technology to understand how it could power tokenized securities trading, Hoka News reported. Ava Labs President Charley Cooper acknowledged the testing timeline but cautioned that the NYSE itself should publicly confirm where the evaluation currently stands. He did not disclose specific test results or performance metrics.
Any final platform would need to integrate with transfer agents, stablecoin issuers, broker-dealers and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the clearing house that settles most U.S. stock trades. This integration ensures that tokenized stocks on blockchain function within the existing regulatory and operational framework that institutional investors rely on. No technical specifications have been publicly released.
The platform could eventually bring approximately $40 trillion worth of U.S. stocks and ETFs onto blockchain infrastructure, Hoka News estimated. The scale reflects the total market value of all equities and exchange-traded funds currently traded in traditional markets.
Ava Labs President Charley Cooper predicted that some trading venues could begin offering 24-hour weekday trading within one year, but expressed skepticism that the largest global exchanges would move that quickly. He suggested smaller venues may attract liquidity first, establishing a foothold before major exchanges fully shift to around-the-clock trading.
The proposed system does not yet have a launch date. The final timeline, blockchain selection, platform structure and compliance rules remain under evaluation. Regulatory approval will likely determine when — or if — the platform can begin operations.
ICE's identification of tZERO as a design partner signals the company is evaluating multiple technology approaches rather than committing to a single blockchain vendor. The approach allows ICE to test different platforms against its performance, security and integration requirements before selecting a final partner.
