MediaTek Unveils 2nm Phone, 3nm Laptop Chips

The Dimensity CX C10 Max uses a mixed eight-core CPU configuration consisting of one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores, along with 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache.
MediaTek says the C10 Max’s 55-TOPS NPU outperforms the first-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus and Intel’s Lunar Lake in raw AI-processing capacity, while roughly matching AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series.
Googlebooks and the C10 Max are scheduled to launch on September 21; MediaTek describes the CX family as positioned between its higher-end RTX Spark laptop platform and Kompanio Chromebook chips, although details about other CX processors remain undisclosed.
The Dimensity 9600M uses a 4+3+1 CPU arrangement—four C1-Pro efficiency cores at 2.7GHz, three C1-Premium performance cores at 3.5GHz and one C1-Ultra prime core at up to 4.21GHz—and is expected to appear in the standard Vivo X500 and Oppo Find X10.
MediaTek says the Dimensity 9600 Pro can run on-device models with up to 30 billion parameters; its NPU 1090 is claimed to provide a 51% increase in LLM prefill performance and 55% higher token generation per watt, while the second-generation Super Efficient NPU is designed to cut always-on AI power consumption by 40%.
MediaTek is pushing deeper into laptops and high-end phones with two new processor families built for on-device AI. The Dimensity CX C10 Max, made on TSMC's 3-nanometer process, will power Google's upcoming fanless Googlebook laptops starting September 21, while the 2-nanometer Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M will run flagship phones from Oppo and Vivo TechBreak.
Both chips emphasize AI performance and battery life. The C10 Max's neural processing unit can handle up to 55 TOPS—matching AMD's latest Ryzen AI chips—while the Dimensity 9600 Pro cuts AI power drain by 40% FoneArena.
The Dimensity CX C10 Max combines one flagship Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four efficiency Cortex-A720 cores. It includes 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache Smartprix. The chip connects to fast LPDDR5X memory, Wi-Fi 7, and supports advanced camera processing.
MediaTek says the 55-TOPS NPU beats Qualcomm's first-generation Snapdragon X Plus and Intel's Lunar Lake in raw AI capacity FoneArena. This positions MediaTek to compete directly with Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD in the growing Arm-based laptop market.
MediaTek's flagship phone chip uses a mixed CPU with one ultra-fast core hitting 4.21GHz, three performance cores at 3.5GHz, and four efficiency cores at 2.7GHz TechBreak. The dual-NPU setup can run local AI models with up to 30 billion parameters—no internet required.
The NPU 1090 delivers a 51% jump in language model prefill speed and 55% better token output per watt FoneArena. A second-generation Super Efficient NPU cuts always-on AI power use by 40%, keeping background features from draining the battery Smartprix.
The Dimensity 9600M steps down the performance ladder but keeps the dual-NPU design. It uses four efficiency cores at 2.7GHz, three performance cores at 3.5GHz, and one prime core at 4.21GHz Smartprix. The chip supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage for faster file access.
This mid-tier chip enables on-device generative AI, smarter camera functions, high-frame-rate gaming, and advanced photo processing TechBreak. Oppo's Find X10 and Vivo's X500 are expected to use the 9600M later this year.
