KLM Receives First Airbus A350 to Begin Long-Haul Fleet Modernization

After Toronto, KLM says the A350 will also serve Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Zanzibar.
KLM says the A350’s noise footprint is approximately 40% smaller than that of previous aircraft, reducing noise for people living near airports.
The A350 replacement plan covers KLM’s 777-200ERs and A330-200s and A330-300s, but not its larger 777-300ERs.
KLM says its second A350 will be named “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” following the first aircraft’s name, “The Night Watch.”
KLM has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900, named "The Night Watch," marking the start of a major fleet renewal for the Dutch airline Travel Trends Today. The 331-seat widebody will fly long-haul routes from Amsterdam Schiphol, with Toronto as one of its first destinations AeroMorning.
The A350 burns about 25% less fuel than older aircraft and creates a noise footprint roughly 40% smaller than previous-generation jets Safari India. KLM says the new plane will replace its aging Boeing 777-200ERs and Airbus A330s across the long-haul network Asiana Aviation.
After Toronto, the A350 will serve six more destinations in its opening phase: Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, and Zanzibar AeroMorning. These routes cover both North American and East African markets where KLM operates strong passenger demand.
The aircraft's 331-seat configuration balances capacity with efficiency on long routes. Its quieter cabin and modern passenger amenities make it attractive for premium routes where passenger comfort drives bookings Travel Trends Today.
The A350 delivery is part of a larger group order for 50 aircraft shared between KLM and Air France Safari India. The two airlines will split the planes based on their individual operational needs and fleet plans.
This shared approach lets the Air France-KLM Group scale production and secure better pricing while allowing each airline to customize its own widebody strategy Asiana Aviation.
KLM's renewal plan covers its 777-200ERs and both A330-200 and A330-300 variants, but excludes the airline's larger 777-300ER models AvioRadar. This selective approach targets older, less efficient aircraft while keeping newer widebodies in service.
The second A350 will be named "Girl with a Pearl Earring," following the art-themed naming convention started with "The Night Watch" Travel Trends Today. KLM expects to take delivery of more aircraft as the Air France-KLM order progresses.
