President Trump convened his 13th Cabinet meeting of his second term at Camp David on Sunday, marking what the White House called the first live televised Cabinet gathering from the historic Maryland retreat. NWA Online reported Trump used the setting to tout 18 months of administration gains on inflation, border security, and global stability, declaring the country had "turned the situation around."
The meeting came as the Iran conflict enters a new and uncertain phase. Trump said Iran is "negotiating on fumes," while Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled openness to a deal but warned of "other options" if diplomacy fails, according to Kurdistan 24.
Fraud Task Force Claims $230 Billion Recovered
Vice President JD Vance announced the administration's Fraud Task Force has identified $230 billion in government fraud and halted $56 billion of it. At the Camp David meeting, Vance unveiled 17 new anti-fraud actions totaling roughly a third of a billion dollars. The announcements were framed as a major win for taxpayers.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also used the meeting to outline plans for a "merit-based" military. He said the Pentagon is removing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Hegseth cited record recruitment and reenlistment numbers and called for a $1.5 trillion domestic military equipment investment, plus $75 billion in private defense spending, according to Kurdistan 24.
Iran War Escalates With No Clear Endgame
The Iran conflict dominated the Camp David agenda. Kurdistan 24 reported the war has now lasted five months, with American casualties and renewed Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Higher gasoline prices have followed the disruption to one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
Trump said Iran is "negotiating on fumes," suggesting Tehran has little leverage left. Rubio said the administration wants a negotiated path but made clear military options remain on the table. A separate report cited by Kurdistan 24 indicated the US and Israel are preparing a major bombing campaign targeting Iran's energy infrastructure, a sign the conflict could escalate sharply.
Iranian Hackers Hit 30 Minnesota Water Systems
Separate from the Camp David discussions, federal agencies flagged a major cybersecurity threat. The FBI and CISA warned that Iranian hackers are actively probing critical US infrastructure. Authorities say 30 water systems in Minnesota were targeted in the attacks.
Trump publicly blamed Minnesota for the cyber incidents, putting responsibility on state officials rather than framing it solely as a foreign attack. The warnings come as US-Iran tensions remain at a high point, raising fears that cyberattacks on water, power, and other systems could expand alongside the military conflict.
Trump Uses Spain Migration Crisis as Political Message
Trump also seized on a migrant crisis unfolding in Spain to reinforce his border security record at home. The Daily Review reported Trump highlighted Spain's situation as a warning about the consequences of weak immigration policy. His administration has made border security a central talking point throughout his second term.
Public polling continues to show low approval ratings for the administration despite its claims of success. Still, Trump and his Cabinet used the Camp David setting — an unusual and visually striking backdrop — to project unity and momentum heading into a turbulent stretch shaped by war, inflation, and election-year politics, according to Lock Haven.
