Vijay and Law Minister Accuse Previous DMK Government of Covering Up POCSO Case

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay and Law Minister R. Nirmal Kumar have accused the previous DMK government of suppressing a complaint and evidence in the POCSO case involving Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani, and Kumar has alleged efforts to settle the matter; the DMK has denied links to Veeramani. A whistleblower reportedly said footage of alleged abuse was submitted to the Anti-Vice Squad in October 2025, but the case was later closed for insufficient evidence. Veeramani was arrested in August along with two house caretakers over the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls, after a special POCSO court rejected the closure report and ordered further investigation. Police have formed an all-women special investigation team, and the Madras High Court directed it to issue weekly public updates. Vijay has also accused the DMK and AIADMK of staying silent about the case amid campaigning for the October 6 by-election; the allegations remain under investigation.
An NGO whistleblower said a pen drive containing about 20 minutes of footage allegedly showing abuse of a minor girl was received anonymously on October 6, 2025, and delivered directly to the Anti-Vice Squad.
Police said the allegations concerned abuse at a private residence in Chennai’s Teynampet area; Veeramani was arrested on August 28 with house caretakers Mahendra Simhan and his wife, Shanti.
The all-women SIT includes Additional Commissioner of Police P. C. Thenmozhi, Joint Commissioner Disha Mittal, Superintendent of Police J. Mutharasi and Deputy Commissioner V. V. Geethanjali.
The Madurantakam by-election was triggered by AIADMK MLA K. Maragatham Kumaravel’s resignation and move to TVK; TVK re-nominated her for the constituency.
