Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to launch the Thaaimaman Thanga Mothiram scheme on September 28 at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, providing eligible newborns delivered in state-run hospitals with a one-gram, 22-carat gold ring. The benefit applies to babies born from June 22, 2026, whose mothers are Tamil Nadu residents registered in the PICME system and holding an RCH identification number; the government has prepared 128,000 rings for the first phase. Newborns will receive rings upon hospital discharge, while rings for babies born before the launch will be distributed through designated hubs; the scheme is intended to support institutional births and build trust in government health care.
