DOJ investigates Texas Democratic group after viral video suggests payments for votes.

The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Texas Democratic group, Texas Majority PAC, after a viral video showed an operative suggesting it was paying people $25 to vote in the midterm elections. The video, which was released by conservative outlet Townhall, showed Sky MacAdams, a since-fired organizing manager for Texas MajorityPAC, discussing the loophole the group allegedly uses to skirt federal election law. Federal law prohibits payments in exchange for voting or not voting for certain candidates, and violators could face up to two years in prison. Eddie Vale, a spokesman for Texas majority PAC, insisted that the description of the program was incorrect and that it was paid for grassroots organizing work. The DOJ and Texas Majority PACs did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
