Bengals Receiver Ja’Marr Chase Questionable to Return After Injury Against Jaguars

The play occurred on second-and-21 with just over 12 minutes left in the first half, while Cincinnati trailed 3-0. Officials flagged the facemask, and the Bengals finished the drive with a 29-yard field goal to tie the game.
Chase had another injury scare in August, hyperextending his left knee during practice on Aug. 25, but he did not miss a game. Entering Sunday, he had 18 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
Cincinnati had all five of its tight ends active and could lean on them if Chase could not return; Mitch Tinsley was also available among the receivers.
Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro receiver Ja'Marr Chase suffered a concussion in the second quarter against Jacksonville on Sunday and is out for the remainder of the game SF Gate. The injury came after a hard hit that included a facemask grab and contact to his head and upper body as he went down. Chase walked off the field under his own power and underwent evaluation in the medical tent before leaving for the locker room.
Chase's absence creates a significant challenge for Cincinnati's already-depleted receiving corps. Andrei Iosivas is sidelined on injured reserve, and rookie Colbie Young is out with a knee injury. Entering the game, Chase had recorded 18 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns this season SF Gate.
The play happened with just over 12 minutes remaining in the second quarter as Cincinnati trailed 3-0. Chase was hit by a defender who grabbed his facemask while another defender struck his head and upper body. Officials threw a flag for the facemask violation, and the Bengals capitalized by kicking a 29-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3 SF Gate.
This is not Chase's first health scare in 2024. In late August, the star receiver hyperextended his left knee during a practice session on Aug. 25 but managed to avoid missing any games. His durability through that incident suggested he could push through minor physical setbacks SF Gate.
To offset Chase's loss, Cincinnati has all five of its tight ends available for the remainder of the game. The team can also lean on backup receiver Mitch Tinsley if needed. These depth pieces will be critical as the Bengals work to move the offense without their top receiving threat on the field SF Gate.
