Affinor Growers Appoints Biotechnology Experts to Strengthen Vertical Farming Capabilities

Affinor Growers has appointed biotechnology entrepreneur Dr. Hyder Khoja as an advisor to strengthen its scientific and commercialization capabilities as it develops vertical-farming systems for indoor and greenhouse production. Khoja brings more than 20 years of experience spanning molecular biology, drug discovery, plant sciences, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, sustainability and renewable energy. Under a consulting agreement, Affinor will grant him 500,000 stock options exercisable at $0.05 per share for 36 months, subject to the company’s stock-option plan and Canadian Securities Exchange policies. The company also appointed Dr. Bo-Sen Wu as an advisor, adding expertise in horticultural lighting, LED systems, controlled-environment agriculture, spectrum optimization, energy efficiency and crop performance.
Dr. Khoja has developed proprietary intellectual property in mycelium-based biomedical platforms and rapid-acting anxiolytic therapeutics, pursued a shortlisted US$50 million U.S. Department of Energy grant, and established research facilities with GMP- and GLP-certified capabilities.
Affinor CEO Nicholas Brusatore said Dr. Khoja’s scientific leadership, biotechnology commercialization experience and commitment to sustainable agriculture would help the company refine its technology and pursue opportunities in controlled-environment crop production.
Affinor’s vertical-farming systems are aimed at indoor and greenhouse cultivation of crops including strawberries and leafy greens, with the company seeking to reduce land, water and energy use while enabling year-round production.
Dr. Bo-Sen Wu holds a PhD in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University and has more than 15 years of experience, including leadership and advisory roles with vertical-farming, greenhouse, cannabis, agricultural-technology and horticultural-lighting companies in Canada, the United States and Asia.
The company has not disclosed the specific start date for Dr. Khoja’s advisory services or any additional compensation beyond the stock-option grant.
