UK Counterterrorism Police Arrest Man in London Over Suspected RAF Fairford Plot

British counterterrorism police arrested a 22-year-old man in Westminster, London, on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts in connection with the suspected plot near RAF Fairford, and searched a property in the area. The man remains in custody as investigators pursue multiple lines of inquiry into the events near the Gloucestershire airbase, which is used by the United States. Six men arrested earlier in the investigation remain on police bail. Iran has denied involvement in the alleged plot.
The arrest was made under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, which concerns the preparation of terrorist acts.
Counter Terrorism Policing appealed for information, directing the public to report it through gov.uk/ACT or the Anti-Terrorist Hotline at 0800 789 321.
Reuters reported that President Donald Trump said a threat linked to Iran had prompted the removal of American B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford.
The earlier arrests included five men on September 27 and another on October 1; Reuters identified the October 1 arrest as involving a dual British-Iranian national.
