Slipknot Guitarist Jim Root Says Eighth Album Will Avoid Early Era Nostalgia

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root says the band is experimenting with a new direction for its eighth album and fans should not expect a repeat of the sound of their early records, including “Iowa” or the self-titled debut. Though the recording process feels uneasy and recalls the band’s formative years, Root said that does not mean the music itself will sound like those albums. He described a more stripped-back production approach, with fewer guitar layers, and said he and producer Matt Wallace chose an amplifier for its aggressive, lively character rather than technical polish. Slipknot has been recording live with drummer Eloy Casagrande; the album is expected in 2027 and will be the band’s first release on its new label, (sic)est Records.
