Himalayan Glacier Melt Study Follows Deadly Collapse

This shift threatens water supplies for millions who depend on Himalayan rivers for drinking water, irrigation and hydropower. The transition will devastate economies across South Asia that rely on stable water flows.
Only 21 of an estimated 40,000 regional glaciers are monitored on the ground, leaving scientists with huge blind spots Hindustan Times. This lack of data means researchers cannot predict which glaciers will collapse next or how quickly conditions will deteriorate. The monitoring gap makes disaster preparedness nearly impossible for vulnerable communities living downstream.
