National Taco Day 2026 brings nationwide restaurant deals and local dining guides for taco lovers.

National Taco Day falls on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, and chains and local restaurants are marking it with deals and dining guides. Taco Bell is calling the occasion “Global Taco Day” in a partnership with Duolingo, offering a limited-edition Duo Habanero sauce and eligible Rewards members a free month of Super Duolingo. Other promotions include free tacos with qualifying purchases at Del Taco and Jack in the Box, discounted tacos at Moe’s, and buy-one-get-one offers at participating restaurants. Local guides highlight taco spots in Asheville, including White Duck Taco Shop and Taco Billy; Pensacola, including El Asador and Tacos El Fluffy; and Fall River. National Taco Day is observed on the first Tuesday of October.
One theory about the word “taco” traces it to 18th-century Mexican silver mines, where miners used it for paper-wrapped explosive charges; one early variety described in the historical record was the taco de minero, or “miner’s taco.”
Taco Bell’s Global Taco Day promotion also includes a giveaway of 1,000 limited-edition Duo owl plushies to Rewards members. In the U.S., the Duo Habanero sauce is free with a Doritos Locos Tacos order or available by itself for 20 cents.
Taco Bell North America marketing chief Luis Restrepo said the event is about “the shared love of tacos and the connections they create between people,” adding that the company was taking that love global. The article also cites an estimate that Americans eat more than 4.5 billion tacos annually.
Asheville readers’ top five taco picks were White Duck Taco Shop, Taco Temple, Taco Billy, TaquerĂa Muñoz and Tamaleria Y Tortilleria Molina.
In Fall River, Tequila Lime Cantina offers mix-and-match tacos for $2.49 each on Taco Tuesdays, with choices including beef, veggie, Portuguese, chicken and jalapeño BBQ pulled pork.
