World launches self-custodial financial super app available in more than 150 countries.

Because World Money is self-custodial, users retain control of their private keys and World does not take custody of their funds.
Peer-to-peer transfers can be made using usernames, are generally completed within seconds and are expected to be mostly free.
World says the app’s development toward a broader “super app” began in March 2025, when it added crypto payments and chat that allowed users to send and receive assets within conversations.
The project’s origins involved verifying users by scanning their irises with World’s Orb devices; users received a World ID and, initially, free WLD tokens as part of the 2023 Worldcoin launch.
World operates under Tools for Humanity, which was co-founded by Alex Blania and Sam Altman.
World, a digital identity project backed by Sam Altman, launched World Money on Monday—a self-custodial financial app now available in over 150 countries. The app bundles stablecoin payments, peer-to-peer transfers, trading, yield-earning tools and virtual accounts into one platform, supporting eight currencies. Cointelegraph reports that World ID verification can unlock enhanced rewards, while the company argues verified human accounts could help combat fraud and AI-generated fake identities.
Users retain full control of their private keys and funds—World itself holds nothing. The app integrates with Stripe for Apple Pay funding, Bridge for traditional banking, Kalshi for prediction markets and Morpho for decentralized lending. CoinMarketCap noted that Worldcoin's token price surged 3.68% following the launch. However, yield products are not bank deposits and carry risk of partial or total loss.
World's roots trace back to 2023, when it launched under the name Worldcoin with a novel twist: users scanned their irises at physical Orb devices to verify their identity and received free WLD tokens. The project aimed to create a decentralized human-identity network in a world of deepfakes and AI-generated accounts. TradingView reports that the path to a broader super app began in March 2025, when World added crypto payments and chat features allowing users to send and receive assets within conversations.
Tools for Humanity, the company behind World, was co-founded by Alex Blania and Sam Altman. The rebranding from Worldcoin to World reflected the shift from a token-focused project toward a comprehensive financial platform.
World Money's peer-to-peer transfers use just a username and settle in seconds—a major advantage over traditional bank wires that take days. Crypto.news reports that transfers are expected to be mostly free, making the app attractive for remittances and casual money exchanges. Users can hold balances in eight currencies and convert between them within the app without leaving their crypto wallet.
The integration with Stripe—a global payments giant—lets users fund their World Money accounts through Apple Pay, sidestepping the friction of traditional crypto onboarding. Crypto.news noted that Bridge integration connects the app to standard banking services like payroll deposits and bank transfers. Kalshi access gives users exposure to prediction markets, while Morpho integration offers yield-earning opportunities on stablecoin holdings, though returns fluctuate and principal is at risk.
Because World Money is self-custodial, there is no middleman holding user funds—but that also means there is no insurance. Cointelegraph emphasized that Morpho's variable-yield products are not FDIC-insured bank deposits. Users can lose some or all of their principal if the underlying protocols suffer losses. Features and available assets vary by jurisdiction due to differing crypto and financial regulations worldwide.
